Naturkultur

Combined climate protection project Austria and Colombia.

THE PURPOSE
Climate neutrality: Quick and easy realisation of climate neutrality for companies, organisations and individuals.

Investment: Sustainable investment in domestic forest regions for climate protection, species conservation, generation protection and more.

Regional and global: Comprehensive solution for long-term CO2 compensation through Austrian and international projects.

Competence: Validation (planned) by the BOKU Competence Centre for Climate Neutrality at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna.

Credibility: Review of the projects by the independent BOKU Climate Advisory Board consisting of academia, authorities and NGOs.

DUNKELSTEINERWALD, Austria
Forest regeneration and biomass build-up through nature conservation contracts.
Forest regeneration and biomass build-up through nature conservation contracts. The Dunkelsteinerwald, located in the centre of Lower Austria, has been characterised by intensive forestry for decades. Larger areas of commercial forests are leased for several decades within the framework of the Dunkelsteinerwald Nature Culture Project and are set aside for non-use, i.e. no (planned) tree removal takes place. All legally required forest management and silvicultural measures will continue to be carried out, allowing the forest to recover over several decades. In the event of timber extraction, e.g. due to storm damage, the wood must be largely used as construction timber so that the stored carbon in the material wood remains bound in the long term. The first forest areas (approx. 1,200 ha) are leased to us by church owners. The rent will be used for a social purpose. An expansion of the project area is planned.

MAGDALENA MEDIO, Colombia
Forest conservation and species protection through nature conservation contracts.
Forest conservation and species protection through nature conservation contracts. In the centre of Colombia, near Dorada, is the area of this REDD+ conservation project. In order to protect the forest, wildlife and plants, an area of 600 hectares is being developed as model agriculture within the framework of the Las Mercedes Mercedes project, and a further 700 hectares are being sustainably managed in cooperation with local farmers. The sustainable management leads to higher yields in the long term, especially through the introduction of an agro-forestry system using water buffaloes, and thus to the protection of the forest from deforestation. In addition, the forest is used for research and art purposes within the framework of the project Las Mercedes . This serves to raise sustainable awareness. Every year, up to 12,000 tonnes of CO2 are stored in this way in the Las Mercedes project. An expansion is planned.
